Who qualifies

You likely qualify if

  • Your company is not an existing Atlassian paid customer
  • Your company is VC funded, OR is associated with an Atlassian partner accelerator and/or incubator (the application form requires you to name your venture investor or accelerator/incubator; the July 2026 anniversary post names Y Combinator, a16z Alpha and Speedrun, Menlo Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures and 20VC among 215+ VC, accelerator and incubator partners; the June 2024 launch post names AWS Activate, Accel, Blackbird and Menlo Ventures)
  • Your company has not raised more than US$10 million in external funding
  • Atlassian reviews every application and may ask for proof of funding; the application form also has a required field for a PitchBook or Crunchbase profile link (or similar)

You won't qualify if

  • Companies already paying for any Atlassian product
  • Companies that have raised more than US$10 million in external funding
  • Bootstrapped companies with no VC funding and no partner accelerator/incubator affiliation (they cannot meet the funding test or fill the required investor/accelerator field on the form)
  • Atlassian Marketplace apps are not included, even for approved startups
  • Seats above the per-product limits (50, or 10 for Service Collection and Jira Product Discovery creators) are not free; exceeding them means upgrading that product to a paid tier and receiving an annual quote

Geography. No country restrictions are stated on the official program page or the application form (which has no country field). Atlassian's July 2026 anniversary post calls it a global program that has onboarded startups "from around the world", and the program page is published in multiple languages.

V how to apply

How to apply to Atlassian for Startups

  1. 01Confirm the three tests: no existing paid Atlassian subscription, VC funding or partner accelerator/incubator affiliation, and no more than US$10M raised in external funding.
  2. 02Gather the required form details: first and last name, work email, company website, the name of your venture investor or accelerator/incubator, and a link to a PitchBook or Crunchbase profile (or similar). An existing Atlassian Cloud site URL is optional.
  3. 03Submit the application form at https://www.atlassian.com/software/views/startups-request and tick the products you want (Jira, Confluence, Loom, Service Collection, Jira Product Discovery, Bitbucket). The form has no referral code field; VCs and accelerators can request enablement material by emailing startups@atlassian.com.
  4. 04Wait for Atlassian's review; every application is checked for accuracy and eligibility, and Atlassian may email you for more information or proof of funding. No review timeline is published.
  5. 05Once approved, the Premium Cloud products are provisioned at $0 for 12 months and you get access to the Atlassian for Startups Customer Success team and the Startups group on Atlassian Community.
  6. 06Before the 12 months end, decide per product whether to renew at paid pricing or cancel. If you need more seats earlier, you must upgrade that product to a paid tier (for example, Confluence from 50 to 75 users means an annual quote for the 51-100 user tier).

Review time: Not published. Atlassian says every application is reviewed for accuracy and eligibility and may email for more information or proof of funding.. Apply at www.atlassian.com/software/views/startups-request.

VI what changed

What changed in 2025 and 2026

July 15, 2026 (two-year anniversary post by Atlassian): more than 5,000 startups onboarded as of June 2026 (over 2,000 in year one, more than 3,000 in year two) and more than 215 VC, accelerator and incubator partners; it also announced an Agentic Engineering template in Jira, available on Rovo-enabled sites. Compared with the June 2024 launch post (Jira, Confluence, Loom, Jira Product Discovery, Bitbucket, Compass), the current FAQ and application form list Jira, Confluence, Loom (Business + AI), Service Collection (Jira Service Management and Customer Service Management), Jira Product Discovery and Bitbucket, and Compass is no longer listed. The program page also shows a Rovo card with up to 50 seats, but Rovo is not in the FAQ product list or the form. Atlassian does not date these product changes.

VIII the AWS angle

Atlassian credits and your AWS bill

This does not reduce your AWS bill; it is a developer-tooling perk that stacks alongside AWS Activate credits. AWS Activate was a named launch partner in Atlassian's June 2024 announcement, and the offer is listed in the AWS Activate offers catalog (startups.aws.com/offers, Engineering and Productivity category), so Activate members can find it there. The AWS listing gives no value or eligibility details, and the actual application is handled on Atlassian's own page.

Atlassian startup credits, answered

How much does Atlassian give startups?

Atlassian's startup offer: 12 months free, up to 50 seats per core product (dollar value unpublished). There are 3 tiers: Core Premium products: $0 for 12 months, up to 50 seats each: Jira Premium, Confluence Premium, Loom Business + AI, Bitbucket Premium; Service Collection: $0 for 12 months, up to 10 seats: Jira Service Management and Customer Service Management; Jira Product Discovery Premium: $0 for 12 months, up to 10 creator seats plus unlimited contributor seats.

Does Atlassian take equity?

No. Atlassian for Startups is a credits program, not an investment; you keep 100% of your company. No referral needed; apply directly.

Who qualifies for Atlassian for Startups?

Stage fit: Pre-seed to Series A in practice; the only stated funding test is no more than US$10M raised in external funding. You usually qualify if: your company is not an existing Atlassian paid customer; your company is VC funded, OR is associated with an Atlassian partner accelerator and/or incubator (the application form requires you to name your venture investor or accelerator/incubator; the July 2026 anniversary post names Y Combinator, a16z Alpha and Speedrun, Menlo Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures and 20VC among 215+ VC, accelerator and incubator partners; the June 2024 launch post names AWS Activate, Accel, Blackbird and Menlo Ventures); your company has not raised more than US$10 million in external funding. How long does Atlassian take to approve credits?

Not published. Atlassian says every application is reviewed for accuracy and eligibility and may email for more information or proof of funding. Difficulty: easy, a short form, no referral for the base tier.

When do Atlassian credits expire?

One 12-month period per startup, after which you renew (paid) or cancel each product. The free Cloud products are classed as "Free or Beta Products" under Section 17 of the Atlassian Customer Agreement, which lets Atlassian terminate or modify them at any time without liability, gives no warranty, indemnity, SLA or support, and caps Atlassian's aggregate liability at US$100.

Can I combine Atlassian credits with AWS credits?

This does not reduce your AWS bill; it is a developer-tooling perk that stacks alongside AWS Activate credits. AWS Activate was a named launch partner in Atlassian's June 2024 announcement, and the offer is listed in the AWS Activate offers catalog (startups.aws.com/offers, Engineering and Productivity category), so Activate members can find it there. On AWS, CloudRoute matches you for free with a vetted partner who can file MAP, POC or IW funding when the workload qualifies and AWS approves it. The Atlassian application you submit yourself.
