Solo founders and small teams building an AI product with no VC, no accelerator and no referral codes. You have a working product or a credible MVP, a company domain and a live website.
Every big number in the directory has a small-print line: "backed by a partner VC". Without one you lose the $100,000 tiers, but you keep more than people think. Cloudflare gives $10,000 with no referral. Microsoft gives $5,000. Google gives $2,000 and a free Workspace year. AWS gives $1,000 to $5,000 self-serve, and a free NVIDIA Inception membership turns into an AWS Org ID that members report landing $10,000 to $25,000.
The order below is built around two clocks. Some reviews take 48 hours (Cloudflare), some take months (NVIDIA Inception in 2026). File the slow ones first. And every credit expires 12 months after approval, not after first use, so do not apply for a GPU grant before you have a workload to burn it on.
Every amount below is the program's own published figure as of 2026-10-09, linked to the official page. "Expected value" is what lands if the step works, not the marketing ceiling. 4 of the 10 steps only reach the top tier with a VC, accelerator or partner referral; the gate line on each step says which. In the AWS step you apply for Activate yourself; a matched AWS partner can file MAP, POC or IW funding on top when the workload qualifies and AWS approves it.
| # | Program | Max value | Expected here | Gate | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | NVIDIANVIDIA Inception | $100K | Membership is $0; the AWS Org ID it unlocks is the prize | No referral. Must be incorporated. | moderate |
| 02 | Amazon Web ServicesAWS Activate (Founders, Portfolio, AI credits) | $200K | $1,000 to $5,000 self-serve; $10,000 to $25,000 with the Inception Org ID (member reports) | You apply for Founders (self-serve) and Portfolio (Org ID). A matched AWS partner can file POC or IW funding. | moderate |
| 03 | CloudflareCloudflare for Startups | $350K | $10,000 for 12 months | No referral for the $10,000 tier. | easy |
| 04 | MicrosoftMicrosoft for Startups (Azure credits) | $150K | $5,000 over roughly nine months | No referral for the $5,000 self-service path. | moderate |
| 05 | Google CloudGoogle for Startups Cloud Program | $350K | $2,000 in credits plus Workspace for a year | No referral. Start tier only without a VC. | moderate |
| 06 | AnthropicClaude for Startups | $100K | $1,000 API credit plus a Team year, if capacity reopens | No referral for the direct tier. $100,000 needs a partner VC. | moderate |
| 07 | RunwareRunware Grant Program | $30K | Up to $30,000, one fixed allocation per team | No referral. Pre-Series A, working product required. | easy |
| 08 | ElevenLabsElevenLabs Grants (Startup Grants) | $6K | $5,500 or more in voice credits | No referral. Under 25 employees. | easy |
| 09 | MongoDBMongoDB for Startups | $5K | Atlas credits plus a $5,000 AWS Activate referral | No referral. Bootstrapped tier exists. | easy |
| 10 | PineconePinecone for Startups | Varies | About $3,600 in plan value plus unpublished credits | No referral. Under 100 employees, Series A or earlier. | easy |
Free, no funding requirement, and it is the key to three other doors: an AWS Activate Org ID (members report $10,000 to $25,000, some $100,000), up to $100,000 in DGX Cloud H100 credits for qualified members, and $1,000 at Lambda. Reviews ran 2 to 3 months in spring 2026, so this goes in first.
Apply for Activate Founders now ($1,000 to start, select startups up to $5,000) so credits are landing while Inception is pending. When the Org ID arrives, re-apply for Portfolio and you get the difference. If you are building on Bedrock, a matched AWS partner can file POC funding to test it, or IW funding once you are on AWS and launching new work, when the workload qualifies and AWS approves it. Without an investor, that is the main route past the self-serve ceiling.
Activate you apply for yourself (Portfolio needs an Org ID from your investor or accelerator). MAP, POC and IW funding can only be requested by an AWS partner, not by you. $50K to $150K for startups. Depends on the workload; AWS approves. We match you with a vetted partner who can file it, for free.
Get matched free →The easiest $10,000 in the directory: a four-step form, a 48-hour decision, no referral for Tier 3. You also get three Enterprise-plan domains and free CDN, DNS, WAF and DDoS protection, which is most of what a one-person AI product needs at the edge. Workers AI is capped at $2,500 on this tier.
The self-service path needs no investor code: $1,000 valid 90 days, then $4,000 valid 180 days after business verification. Azure credits also cover Azure OpenAI, so this is a second model budget. Do it before you touch Azure with any other account: the personal Microsoft account you apply with must never have had an Azure subscription.
The Start tier is only $2,000, but it comes with Google Workspace Business Plus free for 12 months and $200 in training credits. Founded within 24 months, working MVP, no prior Google Cloud credits beyond the $300 trial. Pick your billing country carefully; it cannot be changed later.
Open to bootstrapped teams founded within five years. Anthropic announced a $1,000 Claude API credit and a free year of Claude Team (up to five seats, about $6,000) on 6 October 2026, plus up to $45,000 in partner discounts. Honest caveat: as of 10 October 2026 Anthropic says the Team and $1,000 offers are over capacity and all applications are being re-reviewed. Apply anyway; the form takes minutes.
If your product generates images, video, audio or avatars, this is the biggest no-investor grant in the directory: up to $30,000 of API credits, sized to your stage, with a 12-month runway and top-ups for teams that actually ship. Pre-Series A only, and they want a product that exists today, not a deck.
Fewer than 25 employees is the only hard gate. 33 million characters of voice (about 680 hours of conversational AI) and 12 months of the full platform; ElevenLabs values it at $5,500 or more. Decision within a week.
The bootstrapped Inspire tier gets Atlas credits (MongoDB stopped publishing the amount after the October 2025 relaunch; the last published figure was up to $5,000) plus Voyage AI embedding tokens. The hidden value is the add-on: accepted members can request a referral code for up to $5,000 in AWS Activate credits. That is a second AWS application you would not otherwise have.
If you do retrieval, Pinecone gives a free year of the Standard tier and Pro Support (about $3,600 at list) plus usage credits it does not publish. Bootstrapped is fine; the gates are under 100 employees and Series A or earlier. The free Starter tier works while you wait.
Yes. Cloudflare ($10,000), Microsoft ($5,000), Google ($2,000), AWS ($1,000 to $5,000), Runware (up to $30,000), ElevenLabs ($5,500 or more), MongoDB, Pinecone and NVIDIA Inception all have tiers with no referral code. What you lose without a VC is the $100,000 and up tiers at Cloudflare, Google, Microsoft, AWS and Anthropic.
No. File Activate Founders now and re-apply for Portfolio when the Inception Org ID arrives; you get the difference. One rule: never have two AWS applications open at the same time, because AWS rejects the smaller one, and each Org ID works exactly once.
None of them. Every program in this playbook is a credit grant or a free plan. The cost is your time, plus publicity rights at MongoDB (name and logo) and a case study if NVIDIA or Runware ask for one.
Twelve months from approval at AWS, Cloudflare, Google, Anthropic, Runware, ElevenLabs and MongoDB, measured from the acceptance email, not from first use. Microsoft is faster: the first $1,000 lasts 90 days and the next $4,000 lasts 180 days. Apply when you can spend.
Once you have a real workload to test, move or launch on AWS. A vetted AWS partner can file MAP, POC or IW funding, which only partners can request, when the workload qualifies and AWS approves it. For most bootstrapped startups this is the bigger money: $50K to $150K, depending on the workload, against $1,000 to $5,000 from Activate Founders. CloudRoute makes the match for free; partners pay CloudRoute. Before that point, the self-serve steps above are the right move.
A vetted AWS partner scopes your workload and files the funding only partners can request: MAP for a migration, POC to test something, IW for new work on AWS. $50K to $150K for startups. Depends on the workload; AWS approves. You still apply for Activate yourself.
