Who qualifies
You likely qualify if
- Your company is a brand-new Zendesk subscriber: no current or past paid Zendesk plan (an unconverted 14-day free trial is fine)
- You have fewer than 250 employees; if you have 50 or more, you must be referred by a Zendesk VC or accelerator partner
- You have raised no more than a Series B (bootstrapped companies are accepted)
- Your company is a tech platform or tech-enabled business
- Your company is under 10 years old
- You apply before buying any Zendesk subscription (subscribing before your promo code arrives removes you from the program)
You won't qualify if
- Current or former paying Zendesk customers
- Companies with 250 or more employees
- Companies that have raised a Series C or later
- Companies 10 or more years old
- Companies with 50 to 249 employees applying without a partner referral
- Non-tech businesses
- Usage-based items are not covered for anyone: Talk/Voice is not included during the trial, Sell Voice minutes bill to your card pay-as-you-go, and paid integrations, add-ons, consulting and HIPAA compliance are excluded
Geography. Global. Zendesk's published terms set no country restriction, and press coverage cites 50,000+ early-stage companies on Zendesk's platform.
How to apply to Zendesk for Startups
- 01Confirm you are a brand-new Zendesk account. Start a 14-day trial if you want to test the product, but do not buy a paid plan before applying.
- 02Go to zendesk.com/startups and submit the startup application with your company details (team size, funding stage, website and company email). If your VC or accelerator is a Zendesk partner, use their referral page instead to be considered for the extended term.
- 03You get an on-screen confirmation and an email saying the application is under review. Zendesk's Startups Team replies within about 2 business days; they may provision a standard trial while they evaluate you.
- 04On approval, an Account Executive contacts you to set up the account and confirm your program timeline, and Zendesk emails you a promo code.
- 05In the Zendesk shopping cart, add the agents you need (up to 50), select monthly billing and apply the promo code. Do not downgrade later: reducing dollar amount, product type or agent count voids the promotion and you are billed on the next invoice.
- 06Before your graduation date your Account Executive will reach out about paid options. Per Zendesk's help center, the card on file is charged automatically when the promotional period ends, so cancel or change the subscription before the end date if you do not want to continue, and confirm the date with your Account Executive.
Review time: About 2 business days, per Zendesk's help center (a standard trial may be provisioned while you wait).. Apply at www.zendesk.com/startups.
What changed in 2025 and 2026
May 20, 2026 (Relate 2026, Denver): Zendesk announced a $100 million two-year commitment to the program. Eligibility widened from under 50 employees and Series A (older help-center terms) to under 250 employees and through Series B; the free term now runs up to 24 months (6 months standard, extended by VC/accelerator affiliation and milestones); AI Agents, Copilot, App Builder and early access to AI Agents Advanced are included; and Zendesk expanded its VC program (a16z, Techstars, LvlUp Ventures, 500 Global) and added a membership hub with partner perks from AWS, GitHub and Notion.
Zendesk credits and your AWS bill
This perk does not reduce your own AWS bill, since it covers Zendesk support seats rather than AWS usage. Zendesk's May 2026 expansion does bundle exclusive partner offers from AWS, GitHub and Notion inside the Startups membership hub (each vendor sets its own redemption rules), so check there after approval. Covering up to 50 support seats for 6 to 24 months also frees budget that early-stage teams can redirect to infrastructure, and the program covers different things from AWS Activate.

Zendesk publishes no dollar value; FounderPass lists '$50,000+' without showing a calculation. There are 3 tiers: Standard track: 6 months of Zendesk Suite Professional free for up to 50 agents, including AI Agents, Copilot and App Builder, plus a dedicated Account Executive, onboarding help and office hours; Partner track (VC / accelerator referred): Up to 2 years of the same Suite Professional plan and 50-agent cap; Membership perks: Startups Digital Hub community, exclusive partner discounts from AWS, GitHub, Notion and others (each vendor sets its own redemption rules), founder events, access to Zendesk Labs and Zendesk Ventures.
Does Zendesk take equity?
No. Zendesk for Startups is a credits program, not an investment; you keep 100% of your company. No referral for the base tier; the top tier needs an investor or partner referral.
Who qualifies for Zendesk for Startups?
Stage fit: Pre-seed through Series B, bootstrapped included, under 250 employees and under 10 years old. Best for teams about to hire their first support or sales agents; the 50-agent cap is generous for most early-stage companies. You usually qualify if: your company is a brand-new Zendesk subscriber: no current or past paid Zendesk plan (an unconverted 14-day free trial is fine); you have fewer than 250 employees; if you have 50 or more, you must be referred by a Zendesk VC or accelerator partner; you have raised no more than a Series B (bootstrapped companies are accepted). You will not qualify if: current or former paying Zendesk customers; companies with 250 or more employees.
How long does Zendesk take to approve credits?
About 2 business days, per Zendesk's help center (a standard trial may be provisioned while you wait). Difficulty: easy, a short form, no referral for the base tier.
When do Zendesk credits expire?
6 months on the standard track and up to 24 months on the partner track; your Account Executive confirms the graduation date. The $100M program commitment announced May 20, 2026 covers two years; no application deadline was found in Zendesk's published terms.
Can I combine Zendesk credits with AWS credits?
This perk does not reduce your own AWS bill, since it covers Zendesk support seats rather than AWS usage. Zendesk's May 2026 expansion does bundle exclusive partner offers from AWS, GitHub and Notion inside the Startups membership hub (each vendor sets its own redemption rules), so check there after approval. On AWS, CloudRoute matches you for free with a vetted partner who can file MAP, POC or IW funding when the workload qualifies and AWS approves it. The Zendesk application you submit yourself.
